Fire-Safe Prescriptions &
Treatments
We are all aware of the increasing number of catastrophic fires that have occurred in California and
the western United States in recent years.  This has been the result of several factors including
drought, bark beetle mortality, and the common occurrence of dense, crowded, overstocked forests
conditions.

There are a number of treatments that can be implemented on well-managed forest lands to
minimize the risk of loss to catastrophic fire except under the most severe fire-weather conditions.
These various treatments can often be incorporated with a timber harvesting project or can be a
stand alone treatment.  In many cases, cost-share money is available to help with these efforts.

Applied Forest Management has had extensive experience with planning and supervising fire-safe
treatments.  We have worked on projects associated with the Yuba County Fire Safe council, for
which we are the coordinator and director, as well as an independent consultant on behalf of many
clients and our own company lands.
